Best Centrifugal Juicers

Juicing can be a healthy but expensive habit. The cost of a boutique juice can run up to $10 in some areas. If you juice daily or even on alternate days, the cost can add up quickly. That’s why getting a home juicer is a great option, helping you to save money while giving you the flexibility to juice whenever you want.

As a start, you might want to look into centrifugal juicers. They are the cheaper, faster option compared to masticating juicers.

What are Centrifugal Juicers?

Centrifugal juicers work by using a flat-cutting blade to chop up your fruits or vegetables. This cutting action is done inside a basket, of which it spins at high speeds to separate the juice from the flesh. The juice is then forced through a mesh filter to be collected in a container, whereas the pulp is left in a strainer basket to be emptied.

While centrifugal juicers are fast in juicing your fruits and vegetables, they tend to produce a lower yield compared to masticating juicers. This mean there’s more going to waste. Additionally, they tend to generate high heat and oxidation which can destroy juice of its live enzymes.

You may learn more about oxidation here.

Why Invest in Centrifugal Juicers?

Centrifugal juicers are the most popular type of juicer on the market today. As such, they are widely available, with a wide selection to choose from. Starting from $40, you can very much get your hands on a centrifugal juicer, which affordability makes it great for those just starting out in home juicing.

Features to Look for in a Centrifugal Juicer

The important things to look for in a centrifugal juicer are juice yield, simplicity, oxidation, and longevity. The quality fruits and vegetables required for your juice are not cheap. Therefore, you will want a centrifugal juicer that is capable of producing high juice yield, giving you more bang for your buck.

The more easy it is to use a centrifugal juicer, the more likely you will turn to it for juicing. The size of the juicer’s feed tube will make the biggest difference when it comes to ease. The bigger the feed tube, the less prep work you need to do with your produce. To make it easy for yourself, it’s recommended that you get a juicer with a feed tube that is at least 3″ and above.

Oxidation can degrade the nutrients found in your juice. That’s why it’s recommended that you get a juicer which produce less foam, meaning low oxidation. In any case, centrifugal juicers will produce more foam compared to masticating juicers. If this is your concern along with maximum juice yield then, it’s recommended that you get a masticating juicer instead.

In terms of longevity, the quality of the juicer’s parts will make the biggest difference. If possible, try to look for stainless steel parts as opposed to plastic parts.

Anyhow, only the best centrifugal juicers are included here in my best centrifugal juicer reviews, so you can ensure that you will only get highly rated models. Check them out below, and select any one of them as you see fit.

Best Centrifugal Juicer – Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain

Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain Plus

The Breville Compact Juice Fountain is also my top masticating juicer pick in my best juicer reviews 2017. Cleverly designed with the parts closely positioned together, this juicer is compact and doesn’t hog a lot of counter space. The orange juice yield from this juicer was particularly high in a masticating juicer test conducted by CNET, the world’s leader in tech product reviews. Moreover, it handled greens like kale admirably well, extracting a decent amount of juice.

In terms of cleaning, the Breville Compact Juice Fountain is relatively easy to clean, as most of the parts are dishwasher safe. Moreover, you’ll get a specialized brush out of the box, facilitating you to clean those hard-to-reach areas. To help you get started, this juicer also comes with a printed manual with clear labeling and instructions.

A trade-off you have to make with this juicer due to its compact size is that you can only make a smaller batch of juice in one go. To be precise, you can only make 800ml of juice at a time with it as opposed to 1 liter as with most masticating juicers. Minor issue aside, I say this is a solid, durable juicer that is not only compact but versatile, capable of juicing both hard fruits and leafy greens really well.

Best Value Centrifugal Juicer – Breville BJE98XL Juice Fountain Plus

Breville JE90X Juice Fountain Plus

It was no surprise that the Breville Juice Fountain Plus was also featured in a documentary called, “Fat Sick and Nearly Dead,” about juicing for weight loss. Attractively designed, with brushed metal parts, this juicer is one of the best-looking masticating juicers on the market today.

The juice yield for oranges was particularly high with this juicer along with other hard fruit in a test conducted by CNET. To add value to every purchase, this juicer also offers plenty of extras out of the box.

You will get a cleaning brush so that you can better clean the machine’s nooks and crannies. You will get a one liter juice jug so that you can make a large batch of juice at one time. And finally, you will get a detailed printed manual so that can quickly get started with the machine.

What’s also very neat about this juicer is its two-speed offerings. You will have the option to adjust the machine’s setting between “low” and “high” to handle different types of produce. For optimum results, it’s best you use the “low” setting for soft fruits, while the “high” setting for fibrous green vegetables.

The only drawback of this juicer is that it yielded less juice for leafy greens. Therefore, if you are not so much into juicing vegetables but more into citrus and other fruit, then this is your juicer.

Best Entry Level Centrifugal Juicer – Hamilton Beach 67601A Big Mouth Juice Extractor

Hamilton Beach 67601A Big Mouth Juice Extractor

Costing only $46, last I checked on Amazon, the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor is the cheapest centrifugal juicer on this list. However, do not let its affordability fool you into thinking this is an inadequate juicer, as it’s anything but that.

In a test conducted by CNET, this juicer came out on top in orange juice yield, surpassing the yield of my top pick even. In addition, it yielded juice out of fibrous greens such as kale like a champ. Perhaps where this juicer can do better is its design. Comprising plastic parts instead of brushed metal, it does not exactly exude confidence.

To my dismay, some basic essentials were missing out of the box too. There were no cleaning brush and a juice cup provided with every purchase. A cleaning brush for instance can help you better scrub the dimples of the juicing screen, while a juice cup of course serves as a container for juice.

That said, this juicer does redeem itself in its big mouth design, which makes for easy prep work. Apples and oranges don’t have to be cut into small wedges but can be inserted whole into the machine.  Tomatoes don’t have to be halved but can be accepted whole as well. But the main reason to get this juicer is because it offers solid juicing performance at a very reasonable price. By being able to pull more liquid out of citrus, leafy greens, and other hard produce, you will in effect get more juice for your money.
